READING AFTERNOONS AT THE PARK WITH APPLE & EVE*

We have been into school mode for almost three months.
My daughter second grade teacher is focusing intensely in reading this year.

When it comes to reading, our kids tend to dread reading time often or at least mine.
I find that when I say “Jailah it’s time to read” she tries almost everything to not do it.

Of course as a mom we MUST always find ways to implement things our kids don’t like and make them like it right??!!!

While listening to my daughter read on one of her reading nights, I figured I could maybe do something outside of the ordinary and have reading afternoons at the park.

Reading at the park nights

I’m not going to lie, I did have a little debate with my brain implementing reading afternoons at the park.
Reason why is because I really have to plan out the whole day in order to be consistent and apply the technique for her to enjoy reading more.
Not to mention I also have to schedule in my gym sessions.
Also, I am always in a rush and then I panic when I have too much going on.

Although summer is over and winter has not arrived yet in Texas.
We are going to start having more pleasant temperatures in the afternoons, therefore I decided to head over to the park in the afternoons and have some reading time with this young lady
(I feel so old saying that) but she really is such a big kid now.
Reading at the park
As you know my daughter is a Taurus, and changing or implementing new routines is challenging.
When I mentioned to her, hey so I have an idea, what do you think of going to the park and do homework there in the afternoons?
She gave me this look like, no mami thanks.I sort of had to explain to her more in detail what the plan was and how it could benefit her in school not to mention it was going to be something that was going to be fun.
I also don’t want to make it seem like, the only reason why we are doing this is for school purposes.
I needed it to be fun as well and not all work.
We head over to the park around 6ish, we arrive, walk for a little and than we settle on a peaceful spot at the park.
We grab the back pack and start to do homework then followed by reading. apple and eve juicereading with children at the park

After reading for about 25-30 minutes we take a well deserved juice break, we recently received these juice boxes compliments of Apple & Eve as well as Influenster.
They were a great addition to our reading nights at the park during play and reading time.
Jailah’s favorite flavor was the apple one.

appleandeveNow as I mentioned, the trick for our reading nights at the park, is to not make it all about reading, I also want her to enjoy a little “me” time as well.
She also gets to enjoy a little play time before we head home, that way reading feels less than a chore for her.
So far we have been enjoying the time spent at the park reading.
Luckily, winter still not around which is great and it allows us to keep doing our reading nights at the park.

What about you guys, what are some good reading methods you implement to your child to make reading more enjoyable?
I’d like to know!
