Hola!!
Long-time no see, huh?! I know.
Blame Mercury Retrograde.
Back in August, I traveled to New York City for the very first time in my life.
The Big Apple was on my to-do list for sure, but I never felt that “OMG” feeling in my stomach to visit. Am I making any sense?
Well, I hope I do.
I arrived late in New York after my flight got delayed for 3 hrs.
I was scared, and I’m not going to lie. You know me, I’m always acting strong.
On the ride to my hotel, I couldn’t concentrate on what my Lyft driver was telling me, (I had a very, very talkative driver) I was so focused on seeing everything around me.
It was around midnight, and the streets were awake for that time.
They weren’t awake in the sense of partying or craziness. First alert in that there people walking the streets dressed up as if they had just gotten off work or maybe were even going into labor, who knows.
I was shocked because my mind took me back to Mexico City. I couldn’t help to think this was the way I remember Mexico City was when I was young and lived there. Throughout my trip, I couldn’t help but compare New York to Mexico City.
I used to think Los Angeles looked just like Mexico City, but boy I was wrong.
Anyways, I finally checked into my hotel, and I was blessed to have a fantastic view in my room.
I just kept staring and saying to myself, “What in the Fu*k I am in New York City?”
Day Uno:
I kick-started the day with breakfast and the Shameless Walk with Vagisil, which took us through the streets of NYC. I enjoyed learning more about Vagisil’s business mission for women.
It’s essential to use such a huge platform to bring awareness to women’s health. It was incredibly cool to see everyone walking around with their pink and purple balloons.
The rest of the day consisted of attending the first day of #BlogHer conference, which took place at Pier 17. I was able to witness so many amazing women talk about their passions. The panels included speakers like Gabrielle Union, Jessica Alba, Marie Forleo, Tiffani Thiessen, and many more.
Day Dos:
We decided to explore the city a little and headed over to The Staten Island Ferry. Of course, there are so many other options or tours you can take, but we choose this one because it was FREE.
(PSA: Please be aware of scammers trying to sell tickets. You do not need a permit to ride the Staten Island Ferry.)
I, by far, the least expensive way to see the Statue of Liberty and to check off another NYC borough.
The big orange boat is entirely free and has nice outdoor and indoor seating, and for the best views, standing room on the front and back decks. If you want to see the Statue, or just go for a nice boat ride, then this is for you!
After lunch and the boat ride, we headed back to the hotel, and honestly, we were super tired and sleepy.
We planned to head over to Times Square, at least for a little. I got to ride the metro, which was on my to-do list for sure! Man, I have not been on a metro since I lived in Mexico City, probably since I was 10 yrs old. So, you know I was excited. You guys know I enjoy experiencing things that bring me back to reality and make me appreciate all the comforts I have, it grounds me, and I like that feeling.
By the time we arrived at Time Square, we were starvingggggggggggg, and tired. So, we decided to eat at the Hard Rock Cafe.
Day Three:
On our last day, we visited the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
It was an incredibly moving and powerful experience. We didn’t go into the museum but rather walked around the outside. It was such a weird feeling being there. My heartfelt so heavy, just thinking of everything that all those people experienced during that horrifying day. I honestly just wanted to leave because frankly, my heart felt so heavy. After the museum, we walked back to the hotel to rest for a bit.
We concluded our last day by heading out to a rooftop bar. We opted to visit The Skylark, and this place has excellent views of the city and empire state building. They have a good selection of appetizers and drinks.
(Don’t get discouraged by the dark tunnel entrance, it adds to the charm.)
I wished I had more time to experience the city better.
Now I know what to expect for my next visit and how to better plan for it.
If you’ve been to NYX, What was your experience like your first time in New York City?
