NINE THINGS MY DAUGHTER HAS TAUGHT ME

Universal Orlando

My daughter turned nine on April 24.
Mother’s day was also almost two weeks ago.
Two significant dates for me to write and publish this post and share something from my heart.

Each year on this day, we celebrate the greatest gift that I could have ever been given. Even though she stole my birthday, the day she came into this world will always be my favorite.
As she’s getting older, it is both fantastic and unbelievably scary watching her grow into her person.

From the moment my cheese ball was born, she’s been a big baby.
I mean, just look at how tall she is for her age!

The journey of Motherhood is not easy, and my daughter has taught me many valuable life lessons these last nine years.

There have been a lot of times where I’ve had to take a step back and re-think what I expect from her because, although she looks older, she’s still a little kid.
But then there are other moments where I’m thrown off a little and say, “Wait, is she trying to take advantage of my love?”

When it comes to Motherhood, we tend to overthink the majority of the time. We put unattainable expectations thinking we are wonder woman and often compare our parenting skills to our mothers.

Real-life pressures have helped me realize that Motherhood is not something you can figure out 100% of the time, despite the image that that perfect social media moms try to sell.

Below I am sharing nine lessons my daughter has taught me these nine years I’ve been able to spend with her.

VISITING EPIC WATERS WATER PARK GRAND PRAIRIE TX AS A SINGLE MOM*

Epics Water GP

When you think about water parks, you instantly think, “My wallet is going to get hit hard” at least that’s what I would think.
Especially as a single mom.
You know nowadays most activities or attractions are super expensive.
They have all these insane charges that can make it difficult for you to experience with your kiddos.
I had the opportunity to visit Epic Waters Indoor Water Park this past winter!
I mean I would never have imagined you can go to the water park during the winter, but now you can!!
All year round!

We spent eight full hours at the largest indoor water park under a single retractable roof in North America!

Yep, that is correct, there’s finally an indoor water park that is open year-round in the DFW.

If you know my daughter, you probably would see that she was a mermaid in her past life.
She loves the water, the ocean, water parks, pools, and activities that have to do with water.
But let me tell you she doesn’t like to shower!
Now that makes no sense at all, does it?

MY WORD FOR 2019

Two weeks after the beginning of the year, I can officially say that the year has started.

For some reason, I feel like the first two weeks of the year still feel like the previous year, or is it only me that feels that way?

Magnolia Market Waco

For the past year, when the new year hits, I come up with a word for the upcoming year that I want to use as inspiration.

This year is no different.
I decided to choose my word for 2019.

FIVE WAYS TO DEAL WITH SELF-DOUBT

Crystal Cove

We live in a world full of constant pressures.

We often come across the perfect mom, a dedicated wife, an ideal body, a great career, and a great relationship.

Honestly, as much as we try not to compare ourselves, we simply can’t.

We simply can’t help but pressure ourselves with what we “think” we should be doing.

Self-doubt is hard for us to understand, but that we continuously fall for.
I’ve been a victim of this feeling several times.

As we begin to age, not that 28 or 30 is such an old age, we often get pressured about what we should accomplish by a certain age or time frame.
For the most part, we put pressure on ourselves.

MY WORD FOR 2018

Hello, 2018!

For this year, I wanted to start my first 2018 blog post with something different.
For the first time, I am choosing a word for 2018.

GROW

verb
(of a living thing) undergo natural development by increasing in size and changing physically; progress to maturity.

For the past few years, I’ve been afraid to grow.
I’ve been making up tons of excuses.
I have been sitting in my comfort zone for too long, way too long, I would say.
I’ve wanted to learn more or do different things.

I feel like my brain is not capable of learning more than what I know, which is dumb, I know.

READING AFTERNOONS AT THE PARK WITH APPLE & EVE*

We have been into school mode for almost three months.
My daughter second grade teacher is focusing intensely in reading this year.

When it comes to reading, our kids tend to dread reading time often or at least mine.
I find that when I say “Jailah it’s time to read” she tries almost everything to not do it.

Of course as a mom we MUST always find ways to implement things our kids don’t like and make them like it right??!!!

While listening to my daughter read on one of her reading nights, I figured I could maybe do something outside of the ordinary and have reading afternoons at the park.
